Daily Color: "Your absence has gone through me
Like thread through a needle.
Everything I do is stitched with its color." –W.S. Merwin

On this day of remembrance, the healing power of stitch.

First, the shredded flag from the World Trade Center, repaired stitch by stitch by many grieving hands.

Second, the Otsuchi Recovery Sashiko Project, helping the tsunami survivors of Otsuchi.

Third, a mother works through her grief one stitch at a time.

As in these three stories, the journey through grief and loss has motivated much of my work, and aided my healing, these last few years.
